In chatting with a friend today about habits our moms have that we’ve taken on this long awaited blog was birth (it’s been over a month friends, thank you for pressing me to get on it!). Her mom has gone on to be with the Lord, but she still has very vivid and fond memories of her that we laugh about often. One thing her mom did that she now does is looking back when leaving someone. She said it was because you never know if the person you’re leaving forgot to tell you something, forgot to give you something or even notice something you didn’t. I began to think of clause (b) of Philippians 3:13… forgetting those things that are behind and reaching forth.…and trust me there are times when certain people, places and things should not fog your future with you looking back and you should press forward expeditiously, like a bat out of hell, my mom would say:)
However, there are times when looking back helps you press forward to the things God has planned for your life. When you look back at situations that should have taken you out and realize you’re still standing, that will help you move forward! When you think about how devastating the divorce or the breakup was, now you’ve found new love and wedding bells are ringing, that will help you move forward! When you think about losing your job, your house, your car and finances, now you have it all back, that will help you move forward! When you think about when you had the miscarriage, and now you’re holding a bundle of joy, that will help you move forward! When you think about how you used to be stuck in a rut, a mental basket case and now people are questioning your joy, that will help you move forward. When you look back at your life and notice things are not the same, even if it’s small progress you can celebrate moving forth. I could go on and on with examples, but I think you get it…looking back is not always a bad thing, sometimes it’s just the reflection we need to move forward! Until next time….be encouraged!
