Wow…..it’s been such a long time since I’ve blogged, so hold on I have a lot stored up to say! Hope it encourages you!
What’s in your hand? We explored this topic in a recent sermon to jolt the memory of our people that just like God had to remind Moses he had in his hand what was needed to complete his assignment, so do we. However, like Moses we too have more excuses than excitement, we have more reason why we can’t, why it’s too late, why we are not qualified, ect., rather than recognizing what we do have, what we can do, and realizing as long as we are alive, we still have time. Above all we must recognize who has given us the assignment in the first place knowing that he would never ask us to do something he had not equipped us to do.
God was not asking Moses to do anything he had not done before. He wanted him to use what was in his hand (in his possession, his craft, his infuence, ect.,) to lead his people out of Egypt. The reason Moses was in Midian in the first place was for using his influence. He was speaking for his fellow Hebrew, then used what was in his hand to kill the Egyptian, and when he fled to Midian he used his influence to assist Jethro’s daughters at the well, one he ended up marrying and carrying for the sheep…and now God was asking him to do the same for him, and it was a problem. I find it fascinating how similiar we are to Moses…we too will do it for “them”, but not for HIM! We will work a 12hr shift for “them”, and won’t spend 2hrs. in worship with “HIM”, we will go all out for “them”, but give no honor to “HIM”, yet we live, move and have our being because of “HIM”, not “them”! Oh yes, we must do better!
Two things and I want to shed light on to help get us all do better:
Begin to take notice what God has put in your hand, your craft/talents/gifts, your influence, your income, and use them to make your community, your home, and your church and you yourself better!
Begin to notice how nothing God has summoned you for is too hard for you to accomplish with him!
Midian means place of judgement/strife…No one sent Moses there, he fled there on his own out of fear and guilt of what he had done. You and I both flee to Midian from time to time, but my encouragement to you today is just as God used this assignemnt to bring Moses out, there is an assignment with your name on it as well, so let’s listen for our assignment, and not get so caught in our faults, failures and misfortunes that will only keep us in Midian, the Bible says, we’ve all sinned and fallen short….. so get up, repent, drop guilt and shame like a bad habit and trust God to help you make better choices and let’s go do it for “HIM”! The reward is greater and will take us further! Until next time, be encouraged! Pastor Tammy
