In God We Trust!

During our VBS week I asked my class to define “trust”. There were many opinions, and examples of what trust meant, we finally arrived at Webster who said, trust was the surety, or certainty of a person or a thing. Thinking about the conditions of the economy, our government, our churches, our families and our relationships with each other, trust is not the first word that comes to mind. Our needs and greed are causing some of us to do things that we wouldn’t ordinarily do and we sort of expect that from the world, but not as Christians. We are the light of the world, and such actions will cause others to question our integrity, our loyalty, our walk (character) and our faith as Christians which affects their level of trust in us as ambassadors of Christ.
As we continued to talked about why it’s so important to trust God and him alone because people will not always be what they appear to be, people will not always treat you today as they did on yesterday, people who were loyal to you on yesterday will turn their backs on you today. The people, places and things of this world will cause us all pains and pressures. These pains and pressures will cause you to do one of two things, permit or promote. You can permit it to take you under by giving in to what going on, or you can allow it to promote you, to move you higher, to elevate you to the next level, to propel you into your destiny. Therefore, we will trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean to our own understanding, but in all our ways we will acknowledge Him and He will direct our path! (paraphrased Prov. 3:5-6)
In closing, we played a trust game where I set up a maze, blindfolded one, gave instructions to another to be the true guide, and instructed two more to be false guides. As the blindfolded one began moving through the maze with her true guide, the false guides began yelling loudly the wrong directions and instructions. I loved what happened next, when she became confused because she heard too many voices, she stopped and yelled to her true guide, “where are you, you are suppose to help me!” That was an epiphanic moment, I told them when life begins to yell wrong instructions and directions by way of friends, family or foe, just stop and cry out to God and he will do and be just what he promised!! What a friend we have in Jesus!!!
Until next time, be encouraged!!
