Get In the Game!

The theme at our church for this month is “Get In The Game” in essence, telling members to get involved, stop being pew warmers, get active in a ministry in which you can serve, show your skills, use your God given talent(s) so the body of Christ can win every time.
As I analyzed that thougt, it reminded me of my basketball days in high school (long time ago haha)and how on the court we expected contact, we expected to be bumped, knocked on the floor, pushed , shoved, listen to trash talking and all of that because it was part of the game. Sometimes a foul would get called and the perpetrator penalized, sometimes not, but we still played our game. We wanted to do our part whether it was shooting, guarding, taking a charge, setting a screen, whatever, all for the team and a victory. As this vivid imagery set up shop in my mind it brought me to our walk with Christ and I asked myself, how is it that we are so quick to walk off the court, lose our temper, get discouraged, quit the team and whine, whine, whine when we get fouled in the game of Christianity?
Have we forgotten that we will get bumped, shoved, knocked down and nearly knocked out; there will be those who will try to trip us up on a sly, all to keep us from the goal, to keep us from scoring the points needed for the victory? That’s the purpose of our opponent, the evil one, (He comes but to steal, kill and destroy) BUT when we follow the coach’s instructions (spend intimate time with God), if we study our play book (pick up our Bible everyday and study), if we stay in physical/spiritual shape, not only will we enjoy the victory, but we will enjoy life abundantly; we will be less stressed and more blessed! The only way to win it is to stay in it!! Until next time, be encouraged.
